We are not a factory
It would be easy to tell you we own a workshop, run a foundry, employ a hundred karigars. Many brands do. We choose not to.
The truth is simpler and, we believe, more beautiful: India already has the finest karigars in the world. They live in the bylanes of Surat. They sit at workbenches in Jaipur passed down from grandfathers. Their hands know things that no machine, no factory, no boardroom ever will.
Our role is to honor their work - to find them, partner with them, certify what they make, and bring it to you with our guarantee. We are the bridge. They are the soul.
Seven stages of becoming
Every piece you buy from us passes through seven gates before it earns the Lakhdata Riyan name. Here is what happens in each.
Design
Each design begins as a sketch - sometimes on tracing paper, sometimes on a tablet. We work with our partner karigars to refine the shape, the proportion, the symbolism. Nothing goes into production until the design feels right in our hands.
Sourcing
Gold from BIS-licensed refineries. Diamonds with IGI or SGL provenance. Silver from hallmarked suppliers. Every gram, every stone has paperwork before it has a setting.
Casting & Forming
The karigar melts, pours, and shapes. For lost-wax casting, a wax model becomes a metal piece in a single, controlled pour. This is where art turns into object.
Setting & Stonework
Stones are set by hand under a loupe. Each prong is bent and burnished by a karigar whose fingers have done this thousands of times. Machine setting is faster. Hand setting holds longer.
Polishing
Up to twelve hours of progressive polishing - moving through finer and finer abrasives until the metal mirrors the stone. The chamak you see is patience, not chemistry.
Hallmarking & Certification
The piece travels to BIS for HUID hallmarking. Diamond pieces go to IGI or SGL for grading. Independent labs verify what we claim - because trust is earned, not asked for.
The Final Blessing
Before packing, every piece rests at our altar. A quiet prayer is offered. Then, and only then, it is placed in your box. This step is not in any other brand's process. It is what makes us, us.
Three trades, one legacy
India's jewelry-making heritage is older than most countries. We partner with karigars across three regional traditions - each with its own ancestral expertise.
The Diamond Setters
Surat is where ninety percent of the world's diamonds are cut. The karigars we partner with here have set stones since they were teenagers. Their hands do not shake. Their loupes do not lie.
The Kundan & Meenakari Masters
Jaipur's pink city has fed Mughal courts and modern brides alike. Our partner workshops here practice kundan setting and meenakari enameling - techniques unchanged since the 16th century, perfected one apprentice at a time.
The Goldsmiths
For our gold and silver collections - chains, bangles, traditional patterns - we work with established BIS-certified hallmarking centers in Mumbai's Zaveri Bazaar and Delhi's Karol Bagh. Old trade, modern standards.
Materials, traced
If we cannot trace where a material came from, we do not use it. This is the rule.
Gold
We source 14k, 18k and 22k from refineries certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards. Every batch carries a refinery certificate. Every finished piece carries a BIS HUID number.
Diamonds
Every diamond above 0.30 carats arrives with an IGI or SGL grading report. All stones, regardless of size, are Kimberley Process compliant - which means no conflict diamonds, ever.
Coloured Gemstones
Rubies, emeralds, sapphires, pearls - each batch is tested at SGL or GIA-affiliated labs for authenticity and treatment disclosure. If a stone has been heat-treated, we tell you. Always.
Sterling Silver
Pure 92.5 percent silver, alloyed with copper for strength. Every silver piece is BIS-hallmarked with the .925 mark. No rhodium-plated brass sold as silver here.
